CPS Express, Inc. was fortunate enough to have three drivers competing in this year’s Southern California truck driving championships. This event was hosted by the California Trucking Association and took up an entire parking lot of the Auto Club Speedway in Fontana—not too far from our headquarters in Mira Loma, CA.
The California Professional
Truck Driving Championships are organized to recognize and promote safe driving
and professionalism in the transportation industry. This competitive event is
designed to give drivers a chance to test their job skills under standardized
conditions using vehicles that are the tools of their trade. Truck driving championships afford a safe,
accurate check of the driver's ability to handle his/her unit in close
quarters. Two regional competitions are held within the state - North and
South. The winners from each class of competition, from each region, come
together to compete in the State Finals Competition. There were over 500 of the
best truck drivers from the region showing off their skills in various
categories. The CPS drivers placed 8th, 5th and an impressive 1st place finish
in the very difficult "Sleeper Cab Division".
The 1st place driver, Guy Russell, has been
driving with CPS Express, Inc. for
over 13 years and has an unmatched 1 million+ miles of accident-free, ticket-free
driving. This is the second time Mr. Russell has won this competition. Back in
2006, he also showed everybody how it was done! Mr. Russell excels in
quality on-time service, impeccable customer service and the unique
understanding of what it takes to be successful in business. Traits that are
instilled in all CPS Express
associates.
After the outstanding accomplishment at the
regional competition, Mr. Russell traveled to Northern California for the state
finals, This was truly an event pitting the top truck drivers from the entire
state in one-on-one competition to see who was the best. It was extremely
challenging and tested the contestants in not only road tests but also
written knowledge tests, vehicle inspection and hazard identification. Mr.
Russel placed fifth in the entire state – proving he is truly one of the best
of the best. When asked how he felt about his incredible accomplishment this
year, his only comment was "I'm going to win it all next year!"
We are very proud of you, Guy. (And we like the
spirited attitude). And as always, CPS
Express is dedicated to the highest level of roadway safety and the entire J.G. Haddy family recognizes health and safety as our top
priorities.
